Electrical Design Engineer (Hybrid – Sugar Land, TX)
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our team in Sugar Land, TX. This role requires a strong foundation in electrical engineering combined with hands-on design expertise. The ideal candidate has a track record of delivering high-quality electrical system designs, drawings, and documentation, and thrives in a collaborative environment where innovation and precision are equally valued.
This is a hybrid position requiring regular onsite presence in Sugar Land, TX. Candidates must be based locally or willing to relocate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the design of electrical systems, schematics, and layouts for industrial and commercial projects
- Translate engineering concepts into detailed electrical design drawings and technical documentation
- Perform calculations, load studies, and power distribution design to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, structural, civil) to integrate electrical systems into broader project designs
- Participate in design reviews, identifying opportunities for improvement in safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
- Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client specifications (NEC, IEEE, NFPA, etc.)
- Support project execution by addressing design-related RFIs, troubleshooting issues, and assisting during installation or commissioning phases
- Mentor junior engineers and designers by providing technical guidance and oversight
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s a plus)
- Extensive electrical engineering experience with proven transition into design-focused roles
- 5+ years of experience in electrical design engineering, preferably in industrial, power, or commercial environments
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE)
- Proficiency with CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar); familiarity with modeling/simulation software (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower) a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical precision and project deadlines
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with clients, peers, and project stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain
- Experience designing electrical systems for energy, oil & gas, utilities, or manufacturing sectors
- Exposure to protective relaying, switchgear, or power distribution systems
- Experience with hybrid project environments (onsite + remote collaboration tools)
